Get a Jump on Spring Cleaning with this Local Homemade Recipe

It's been a brutal winter here in Ohio's Amish Country and like  the rest of the country we're dreaming of spring! But just because it looks like we'll have several more weeks of winter doesn't mean that you can't get a jump start on your spring cleaning! In fact, this is the perfect time of year to jump into a deep clean of the inside of your home.

Cold and flu season can wreck havoc on the interior of our homes. Germs trapped in the home can often end up keeping you trapped in a cycle of sickness throughout the winter months.

With the advent of pinterest, homemade cleaning products have seen a resurgence in popularity over the last year, but I'm sure that you won't be surprised to know that they never really fell out of fashion here in Amish Country! Not only are homemade cleaning products a much more money-wise way to keep your household in top shape making cleaners yourself, in your own kitchen assures that you know exactly what is in the products and keeps your family safe from a variety of harsh chemicals found in traditional, store bought brands.

The recipe that I am going to share with you today is one that I was given my by mother-in-law and while it is hands down the best handmade all purpose cleaner that I have used, I'm 99% sure that you will already have what you need to make it in your pantry!

Simply Combine:
10 ounces hot water
8 ounces White Vinegar
4 ounces Lemon Juice
1 tablespoon Baking Powder (not soda...powder)
1 ounce liquid dish soap (like dawn or gain)

That's it...the only additional tip that I have is to add the liquid soap in LAST so that you avoid a bubble mess in your kitchen. Transfer mixture to a spray bottle and you are done. Give it a slight shake before each use to mix up all the ingredients in case they have settled and you are ready to clean.
I have seen a lot of cleaners that use baking soda but this is the first time that I have used baking powder...don't ask me how the science works but MAN does it work! I have used this on everything from counter-tops, windows, mirrors and cleaning my stove top BUT my absolute favorite use for this magic concoction is a replacement solution for our Bissell steam vac carpet cleaner!
